Whitehorse volleyball beats Pinnacle, falls to Green River

The Whitehorse High School volleyball team won a home region game against Pinnacle on Tuesday, October 2. The Lady Raiders swept the Pinnacle Panthers in a 3-0 match.

In the first set, the Lady Raiders dominated with a 25-14 win. Senior Alyzea Benally scored easy points for the team with back-to-back aces. Junior Rueshaunda Jim added to the scoreboard with kills and quick aces.

The second set went in favor of the Lady Raiders also, as they won 25-12. The Pinnacle Lady Panthers also had big moments in the game, with long rallies and tough serves from Stephanie Sasser.

In the third set, Pinnacle gave Whitehorse a game. The Lady Panthers came back from a 10-point deficit to give the Lady Raiders a scare. Whitehorse couldn’t seal the deal at match point.

Pinnacle wouldn’t go down without a fight. Junior Ashonte Dickson finally ended the match with a quick tip, leaving Pinnacle unable to recover. The final score was 25-21.

Following the win over Pinnacle, the Lady Raiders traveled to Green River where they lost a tough five-set Region 19 matchup to the Lady Pirates.

Whitehorse welcomes rival Monument Valley to the WHS gymnasium on Thursday, October 10 for the Battle of the Drum. It’s also the girls’ last home match of the season.
