MHS wrestling team wins division championship

In their last year among the 1A ranks, the Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers dominated the competition at the Divisional Tournament this past weekend. 
The Buckaroos brought home the division championship trophy with 278 points. Second place Milford was a distant second with 195 points followed by Piute at 152.
Individually, 19 of the 21 team members qualified for the state tournament next weekend where the Buckaroos will fight to defend their 2018 state championship.
The championship finals looked like a home meet, with 16 Buckaroos in the line-up, including four weights where two MHS matmen were facing off. At the end of the night, 11 Buckaroos were crowned as champions. 
Paxton Christensen led off for the Bucks, earning two wins by fall on his way to a first place medal. Tate Ramsay earned his first region championship winning in the finals by fall. Brevin Olson earned a win by fall in the semis and had an 8-1 win in the finals. 
Matt Beh finished in first place after a win by fall and a hard fought 3-2 decision in the finals. Steven Robinson earned a win by fall in the semis and a first period fall in the finals.
Mark Beh had a win by fall in the semifinal round and a 12-1 major decision in the finals to win his championship. Kayden Draper won by fall in the semis and had a second period fall in the finals. 
Zach Cecil earned two wins by fall, including one in the championship match. Wyatt Fullmer won two early matches by fall before winning a 4-0 decision in the championship match.  
Tuff Adair won by fall in the semis and earned a second period fall in the championship match. Dillon Slack had two wins by fall, including a second period fall in the finals. 
Buckaroos Cameron Bailey, Alan Pettit, Dillan Wheeler, Robert Musselman, and Eldean Lammert each finished in the runner-up spot, finishing second in their weight classes. 
Bailey earned an exciting 8-4 victory in the semi-finals and was defeated by teammate Paxton Christensen in the finals. Pettit earned a win by fall in the semifinals and was defeated by teammate Steven Robinson in the finals.
Wheeler had two wins by fall on his way to the finals where he was defeated by teammate Mark Beh. Musselman had a win by fall in the semis before being defeated by teammate Kayden Draper in the finals. Lammert earned a win by fall in the semi-finals but was defeated 8-2 in the final match. 
Three Buckaroos wrestled in the consolation finals. Tyler Thayn earned a third place medal, winning in the finals 7-3. Thayn earned a win by fall in the first round before a loss in the semifinals, but followed with a win by fall to earn a spot in the medal round.
Logan Draper and Drew Westcott each earned fourth place medals. Draper lost in the semis but came back with a win by fall before a 12-7 loss in the consolation finals. 
Buckaroos JD Keyes and Braxton Atwood fought hard but did not place at the tournament. Atwood earned a win by fall in the first consolation round. 
This weekend the Buckaroos will finish their season at the 1A State Tournament at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. Wrestling in the 1A division starts at 3 p.m. Friday. Wrestling in the 2A division will begin at 1 p.m.  Saturday Rounds begin at 10 a.m. with the finals scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
