Head Coach Barkley Christensen: “Cole “Throw Me the Ball” Duke was huge for us all year long. He stepped up big time as a player and a leader of this team and had a great year. At our summer camp in Richfield, on one of the last plays of the camp, Cole made a tackle on the opposing team, but in the process, dislocated his shoulder. It dislocated so violently, that it actually fractured the bone in that area. Cole spent the rest of the summer rehabbing and battling back to try and get ready for week one.
“Thankfully, Cole was healthy enough to play weeks one, two, and three. Unfortunately, in a pregame practice heading into week four, Cole made a tackle in practice that put his shoulder out again and he had to miss weeks four and five. Cole was determined to rehab and finish the season, and he did just that. Despite missing time, Cole was still selected to First Team All-State. He was a shut-down corner for us all year and he had 30 tackles with one interception that went for a touchdown in the semifinal game.
“He also was a great wide receiver, having 24 catches for 357 yards and five touchdowns. He also had one rushing attempt that was a touchdown in the state game. Cole showed grit, toughness, and resilience all year long and he is more then deserving of First Team All-State. Congratulations, Cole!”
