Saraeya Mills 2A wrestling state champion San Juan junior ~ 155 pounds ~ 26 wins-8 losses
Head Coach Art Adair: “Saraeya came into the program looking to challenge herself and try something new last year. Over the past two seasons, she has shown tremendous natural skill and ability on the wrestling mat. She is someone who pushes others at practice and makes everyone she wrestles with better.
“Anyone who has spent time in a wrestling room knows that great wrestlers are built in the room through their practice partners. Saraeya has been one of those athletes who pushes others toward greatness, and along the way she has found her own success as well.
“Although she is a person of few words, she has the ability to bring people together and lead in a quiet way. Her work ethic and determination set an example for those around her. Last season Saraeya lost a very tough match in the state championship and was determined to earn another opportunity to reach the top. This season she battled through injuries that caused her to miss time on the mat, but she never lost sight of her goals and continued to work hard.
“She finished the season with a 26-8 record, was named an All-Star, and became the first-ever San Juan High girls divisional champion. Most importantly, she achieved her goal and is now a State Champion. We are proud of everything Saraeya has accomplished and look forward to her continued success next season as a senior.”
