Head Coach Art Adair: “Saylor leaves the program as a two-time state medalist, finishing fourth last season and climbing to third place on the podium this year. She has been a tremendous asset and leader on our young team. Saylor will always be remembered as one of the founding members of San Juan Girls Wrestling and someone who fiercely fought for the creation of this team. She believed in the program from the beginning and helped lay the foundation for what it is becoming today.
“She completed her senior season with an impressive 30-10 record and was the team leader in escapes for the past two seasons. Saylor worked extremely hard this year on her positional wrestling, especially improving her ability to get off the bottom. Her dedication showed, as time and again she fought her way to escapes and competed with more physicality on her feet. She also had a breakout performance at the Utah Winter Classic, where she was crowned champion at her weight.
“Saylor comes from a strong wrestling family, and every time she stepped on the mat you could tell she wasn’t just wrestling for herself – she was also wrestling proudly for the Dandy name. Beyond her performance on the mat, Saylor made it her mission to recruit other girls to come out and try wrestling. She has put in tremendous effort not only as an athlete but also in helping grow the program at San Juan High School.
“As a leader, Saylor will be greatly missed. She is another athlete who wasn’t satisfied with losing her final match of the season. You could see through her work and commitment that she wanted to walk away with a win in the final match of her career. She competed hard and had a tremendous state tournament. As a coach, athletes like Saylor are invaluable to a program. They perform on the mat, succeed in the classroom, and serve as leaders and caretakers for their teammates off the mat.
“Saylor has truly left her mark on San Juan Girls Wrestling, and we are proud of everything she has accomplished.”
