Bronco boys get back above .500 with win

The San Juan High School boys basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 77-55 win over Green River in Blanding just before the Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, November 25.
The Broncos dominated the Pirates in the first half, leading 22-10 after one quarter and 40-22 at halftime. They outscored Green River 24-11 in the third quarter before the starters sat down for most of the fourth quarter.
Senior Tripp Palmer paced San Juan with 17 points and 13 rebounds, earning a double-double for the third time in as many games to start the season.
Jagger Nieves had an excellent night as well with 14 points including two three-pointers, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Cole Duke poured in 13 points including a three, pulled down four rebounds, and assisted on three Bronco baskets.
Baylor Nielson scored six of his 11 points from beyond the arc and collected four assists. George McNaughtan snagged 13 rebounds and just missed a double-double when he scored nine points. He also had four assists in the win.
Cash Palmer scored eight points for San Juan, Brigg Palmer hit one three-point bucket, and Beau Yeomans had a two-point night.
San Juan was 32-for-60 from the floor for 53 percent and 7-for-11 from the free throw line for 64 percent. They out-rebounded the Pirates 46-21.
The Broncos will try to maintain their momentum this week when they get back underway with a weekend doubleheader at home. They host Panguitch Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. and Bayfield, CO Saturday, December 8 at 2 p.m.
