The San Juan High School boys tennis team traveled to Brighton High School on Thursday, May 16 to compete in the 3A Utah State Championships.
They battled hard, but unfortunately all the players’ seasons came to a close in the first round. In first singles play Denim Howell suffered a 6-0, 6-0 straight-sets loss to Bruce Gomez-Perez of Richfield.
Noah Olsen played an exciting match in second singles. After losing the first set to Grantsville’s Rowan Nielsen 7-5 he rallied to take set two 6-1. His steam ran out in a 6-1 loss in the third set.
In the third singles bracket Nelson Yager, also of Grantsville, had his way with Spencer Gosney, downing the Bronco in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
In first doubles play Wyatt Keith and Boston Bowers lost 6-0, 6-2 to Payton Roundy and Devan Williams of Canyon View.
And in second doubles Oren Bradford and Sawyer Tomco suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Zayde Tanner and Boston Bennett of Union.
Bronco Head Coach Casey Olsen said he's very proud of his team. “They worked hard in practice, gave it their all during matches, and never gave up.
“I am most proud of how many parents, coaches, and athletes from other teams complimented our players on their good sportsmanship and positive attitudes.”
