Buckaroo Baseball Dominate Mustangs with Explosive 11-1 Victory: Felix Fans 15, Carpenter Hits First Career Homer

The Monticello Buckaroos showcased an impressive performance on Thursday, March 20, defeating the Nucla Mustangs by a decisive score of 11-1 on the road. The Buckaroos' offense exploded for 11 runs on 11 hits.
Jackson Keyes, who had a stellar day with a home run, double, stolen base and 2 RBIs, led the Buckaroo offensive charge along with sophomore Triston Felix, who added two hits, three runs and two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base.
Felix also delivered a strong performance for the Buckaroos, pitching a complete six innings on only 83 pitches, allowing only one run on three hits while also fanning an impressive 15 batters.
Felix’s battery mate, Arturo Gutierrez, called a fantastic game from behind the plate and defended Nucla’s gigantic backstop.
Camren Carpenter started the slugging for the Buckaroos with a leadoff home run to open the second inning.
Carpenter got a fastball low and in from Nucla’s starting pitcher, Jake Hulst, and smoked it down the left-field line for a no-doubt home run.
Carpenter’s first career home run put a jolt into the Buckaroos as they celebrated with an onslaught of offense.

“I heard Coach Young yelling at Camren to run, but I could tell off the bat that he was going to enjoy the slow jog around the diamond. The ball left the park immediately after leaving Cam’s bat. He has worked really hard and come a long way and he earned that trot around the bases.”
Other notable offensive performances for the Buckaroos included sophomore Cache Young and junior Jaeden Camacho, who combined for two runs on two hits with three RBIs.
Young’s double in the top half of the 6th ultimately drove in the winning run.
Young and Camacho also accounted for all three defensive plays for the buckaroos, two ground balls to shortstop handled easily by Young and a lazy fly ball snagged by Camacho to end the game.
The Buckaroos have started the season 3-0 and are looking to continue the hot start to the season with a win over Grand in their next contest.
Monticello will face Grand in Moab on Tuesday, March 25th at 3:30 p.m after the San Juan Record print deadline.
