Buckaroo wrestlers have solid week, are set to close out 2021

The Monticello High School wrestlers had a good showing at the Manti Holiday Classic this past Friday and Saturday, December 17-18. The team won four duals at the two-day tournament, tying for third in their pool.

The Buckaroos beat Altamont, Bryce Valley, Tintic, and Kanab. They were defeated by Union B in a close 39-36 battle, Milford, and Panguitch.

Based on tiebreaker criteria, Monticello wrestled in the fourth-place dual where they were defeated by Union in their final dual of the weekend.

Overall, Oakley Adams and Treydon Harris were undefeated at the tournament, both finishing a perfect 7-0 and each winning every match by fall.

Javlin Robison was right behind them, finishing 7-1, going through the first seven rounds with all wins by fall.

Tyler Thayn was 5-4, earning four wins by fall. Logan Draper finished 4-2 earning all four wins by fall. Zac Thayn was 2-3 on the weekend with one win by fall.

Tyson Wheeler picked up an open spot on another team, as he is the second Buckaroo wrestler in one weight. He battled to pick up two wins for the weekend.

Chandler Henderson and Cameron Bailey each earned a win by fall for the Buckaroos. Also working hard for the Buckaroos this weekend were Tavon Black, Jarum Robison, and Cameren Carpenter.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, December 15, the Buckaroos were in Blanding to take on the San Juan Broncos and Grand County Red Devils.

In the first match of the night Oakley Adams earned a win by fall in the first period over Grand. Chad Yellow of San Juan defeated Monticello’s Treydon Harris by fall in the third period.

Zac Thayn earned a third period win by fall for the Buckaroos over Bronco Nicholas Joe. Chandler Henderson was defeated by fall in the second period by Bronco Parker Snyder.

Javlin Robison earned a second period win by fall for the Bucks over JD Palmer. Cameron Bailey kept the wins in the Buckaroo column with a first period fall over Logan Keith.

Tyler Bayles defeated Buckaroo Tavon Black by fall in the second period and Oakley Adams closed out the night with a pin over San Juan’s Zach Palmer in the second period.

This Tuesday, December 21 Monticello hosted the team from Kayenta, Arizona. The Bucks will return from the winter break on Thursday, January 6 when they host Aztec, NM.
