Buckaroos drub Cowboys 52-0, for Homecoming victory

The Monticello Buckaroo football team improved to 3-2 on the year with a dominating 52-0 victory over Plateau Valley High School.
The victory culminated a week of homecoming activities in Monticello, which also featured a volleyball victory over San Juan, powder-puff action, a queen pageant and homecoming dance.
Monticello dominated from the opening kickoff on the way to the running-clock victory. The offense performed well and the defense preserved the shutout with two red-zone defensive efforts.
It was the first meeting between Monticello and Plateau Valley as Monticello embraces the eight-person football world, which is popular in adjacent areas of southwest Colorado.
Plateau Valley High School is located in Collbran, CO, east of Grand Junction.
The teams seemed evenly matched, but Monticello was able to dominate in all three phases of the game: offense, defense and special teams.
Buckaroo Easton Young continued his prolific scoring performances, with another three touchdowns for the night.
Young scored two touchdowns on the ground, and the third on a reception from quarterback JD McDonald.
In addition, two long kick returns by Young were nullified by penalties against the Buckaroos.
Jav Robinson added a 25-yard touchdown run for the Bucks, on his way to 49 yards total rushing.
Additional rushing totals include 55 yards for McDonald, and 44 yards for Thomas Fullmer.
McDonald completed four of eleven passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman Jackson Keyes completed all five of his pass attempts for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
Landon Ewart caught four passes for 53 yards and turned two of them into touchdowns.
Carter Rogers had a spectacular catch of a Keyes pass and scored a 54-yard touchdown.
Robison led the Buckaroo defense with ten tackles and Robert Morrison added eight.
Easton Young continues to rack up points for the Buckaroo team this season and is one of Utah’s leading scorers.
Young has scored in just about every way, including receptions, runs, interceptions, punts, and kickoffs. He even through a completed pass for a two-point conversion.
The Bucks host the Dove Creek Bulldogs Friday night at 7 p.m. in Monticello. It is the first meeting in several years between the adjacent schools.
Dove Creek is undefeated after four games and is ranked #5 in Colorado 8-man. The game will be available on Pictureitpalmer.com
