Buckaroos take second in Bayfield XC Invite

The Monticello High School cross country team opened their season at the Bayfield Invitational on August 22 in southwest Colorado.
The early-season race can set the tone for the rest of the year and there were positive outcomes for the Buckaroos.
The boys started strong, with three runners finishing in the top five. They were led by junior Eli Carling, who covered the 5K course in 18:52. Sophomore Linden English was fourth in 20:41 and senior Charlie Welch was fifth in 20:46.
The Buckaroo boys finished second in the team race, just behind the winners from Pagosa Springs. Other racers scoring for Monticello were Christian Hunt (16) and Adrian Boone (19).
Junior Allie Carling paced the Monticello girls to a third place finish in the race. Carling was third overall with a time of 24:08.
Junior Latalia O’Harra and sophomore Murryn Suttlemyre finished ninth and tenth, with Xymenah Alvarado and Brenna Baxter providing points for the Lady Bucks.
In the junior high-race the Monticello boys were paced by Copeland Bothwell, Shawn Baxter, Easton Palma, Carson Palma, and Braxton Shupe to a third-place team finish.
In the girls junior high race it was Thea Pettit, Cora Bothwell, Laurel English, Piper Plemons, and Melissa Hunt pacing Monticello to second place.
The Buckaroos race again this Saturday, August 29 at the UIAAA Invite in Spanish Fork.
