Cougar girls win two, boys get split

Monument Valley boys and girls teams opened region play by hosting the Green River Pirates on January 10.
The Cougars defeated the Pirates 68-31 with 11 Monument Valley players scoring in the game. The Cougars were led in scoring by Raemi Nez who finished the game with 16 points. Shimequa Hudson scored 11 on the game while Alyah Blackwater scored ten points.
Naveah Wilson scored eight points, and Precious Bedonie scored seven. Chianne Bedonie and Earlynda Bedonie each scored four points. Keilana Smith, Lillianna Fatt, Shikeeya Hudson, and Mariah Begaye all scored two points on the game.
The Monument Valley boys team was defeated by Green River 51-38 on January 10.
Both teams hit the road on Saturday, January 14 to visit Red Mesa High. Both Monument Valley teams walked away with a win on the weekend.
The boys team narrowly defeated Red Mesa 54-52. The girls earned a more comfortable win 56-30. The Lady Cougars held a defensive clinic holding Red Mesa to 18 percent on field goals and forcing 27 turnovers.
Both Monument Valley teams host Monticello this Friday, January 20. The girls game tips at 5:30 and the boys at 7:00. Both games will be broadcast Redrock 92.7 FM and PictureItPalmer.com
Monument Valley also hosts Pinnacle Academy on the evening of Tuesday, January 24.
