Head Coach Jens Nielson: “Baylor wasn’t a loud leader either, but he was a leader in his play and his Baseball IQ. Baylor was a catalyst for our team as he anchored the defense as an outstanding catcher and pitcher. About three weeks into the season he sustained a UCL strain. We had a tough three-week stretch where we couldn’t throw Baylor and had to limit him defensively. I was proud to see his resilience toward the end of the season as he caught and pitched even though it was uncomfortable.
“Baylor threw a gem in the state semifinal in shutting down Gunnison with a dominant 11-1 win. He was not a hundred percent but he understood how to pitch efficiently and with grit despite not being able to throw as hard as he could if he was healthy.
“Baylor also turned it on with his hitting. He was a great leadoff guy who hit for average, a little bit of power, and provided a guy on base for his teammates to knock in. Baylor is very passionate and smart with the game of baseball. His play and leadership will be missed. He will do great things in life. Congratulations and good luck, Baylor. Good work!”
