Head Coach Jens Nielson: “It was so easy coaching Cooper. He naturally made adjustments before coaches ever had to instruct him. He has a very high baseball IQ and it was put on display time and time again with his defensive play at first base and his adjustments at the plate.
Cooper is a quiet leader but has a very competitive mentality. This is the second year in a row Cooper has earned First Team All-State honors. I will miss having him around.”
Additional Comments from San Juan Head Coach Jens Nielson
This year was so much fun to coach and these players were at the core of why it was successful and why it was so much fun. Each one of them could have easily made First Team All-State. They are dynamic players whose impact will be hard to replace.
From what we gathered from the data available, this year’s squad set a San Juan High School record for home runs in a season with 27. The group of five All-State boys led the charge, contributing 21 of those 27 blasts, with the other two seniors – Brody Bilbao and Jaiten Knight – hitting the other six.
Those are impressive numbers from some very good baseball players. We wish you guys the best of luck. This season will always be one of the highlights of my coaching career. Congratulations, boys!
