All four of the high school football teams in San Juan County begin their respective state tournaments in quarterfinal matchups this Friday, October 27.
Two of those teams look to make a return trip to championship games in three weeks and one is looking to win their third straight title.
The 2A #1 San Juan Broncos are riding a state-leading 34-game win streak as they welcome #8 Judge Memorial to Blanding to begin their quest for a three-peat in earnest.
It’s a rematch of the Broncos’ meeting with the Bulldogs in Salt Lake City on September 8, which they won 67-7. Judge defeated Grand County 27-19 this past Friday, October 20 to advance to the quarterfinals.
The two teams are heading in opposite directions. San Juan is scoring an average of 59 points per game while allowing a measly 12. The Bulldogs are averaging 21 points per game and giving up 45.
The kickoff is set for 5 p.m. this Friday and you can catch all the action live on Redrock 92 Radio with streaming video on streamutah.live.
In the 8-Man quarterfinals it will be a very familiar matchup in Monticello as the #2 Buckaroos host #7 Monument Valley looking to embark on a postseason journey that will return them to the title game.
The teams have not met this season at the varsity level, but several common opponents give a fairly clear picture of how the local rivals stack up against each other.
Monticello beat Whitehorse easily a couple weeks ago and the Raiders swept their two-game season series with Monument Valley easily.
The Buckaroos beat Norwood, CO by a touchdown in the final game of the regular season and the Mavericks dominated the Cougars 54-8 on August 31.
So Monument Valley travels north looking for a big upset. The winner will advance to the state semifinals to take on either Altamont or St. Joseph.
It’s a 6 p.m. kickoff and you can watch the game live on streamutah.live. The games this weekend are the final live streams of the football season for streamutah.live, so don’t miss them. After this weekend local broadcasts will be radio-only.
One other game in the 8-Man bracket features the #5 Whitehorse Raiders traveling to Hildale to take on the #4 Water Canyon Wildcats, also at 6 p.m.
Whitehorse will have their hands full in a rematch with the team that beat them 80-12 on September 22 in Montezuma Creek.
The Raiders have won two of their last three games. The Wildcats have won three of their last four, losing only to 1A Altamont. The winner of this matchup will face the #1 Rich Rebels in the semifinals next weekend.
