Good weekend for Buck wrestlers
The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers traveled to Orem this past weekend to participate in the JV Rumble tournament.
When Colorado postponed their wrestling season, the Buckaroos were forced to find other options for their entire January tournament schedule. Coaches have worked hard to keep the team on the mat to prepare for the upcoming divisional and state tournaments.
Robert Musselman and Brevin Olson led the Buckaroos at the JV Rumble. Both brought home first place medals.
Musselman had three wins by fall and a major decision. Olson started things off with a big 17-0 technical fall win, followed by wins by fall in the next two rounds.
Paxton Christensen earned a second-place medal after winning two matches by fall and an 11-0 major decision win before a loss in the finals.
Javlin Robison earned a second-place finish with two wins by fall and a 13-6 quarterfinal win before a loss to Olson in the finals.
Treydon Harris, Thomas Fuller, and Oakley Adams each finished in third place. Harris had two wins by fall and a major decision. Fullmer was 2-1 with one win by fall, and Adams finished 3-1 with three wins by fall.
Tyler Thayn and Logan Draper each earned fifth place medals. Both had only one loss on the day, but due to COVID rules, a loss in the first round kept them from being able to wrestle back to third place with fifth being the highest placement they could earn.
Thayn finished 3-1 with a win by fall and a 4-0 win in his placing match. Draper was 3-1 with three wins by fall.
Also wrestling for the Buckaroos on the weekend were Cameron Bailey, Zac Thayn, and Chandler Henderson who earned one win by fall.
This week the Buckaroos will hold a Senior Night event on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The team is scheduled to attend a tournament at San Juan High School on Saturday. Next Thursday, January 28, the Buckaroos will be at the Divisional Tournament at Beaver High School.
