Lady Broncos off to a blistering start on the softball diamond

The San Juan High School softball team has gotten out of the gate very quickly to start the season, and they put an exclamation point on their speedy opening weeks with a 5-0 showing at the March Warm-Up Tournament in St. George this past weekend.
The Lady Broncos swept Enterprise to begin the season with a 3-1 win at home on March 9 and a 19-13 victory in Enterprise on Thursday, March 12.
Then the girls proceeded to take down Skyridge 5-4, Pleasant Grove 13-4, Bonneville 13-3, Boulder City 12-6, and Hillcrest 12-11 at the March Warm-Up on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.
San Juan is 7-0 to start the season and they’ve outscored their opponents 77-42 in those games. Ella Stearns leads the team early on with a .565 batting average. She’s 13-for-23 with three home runs, three triples, a double, 15 RBIs, and eight runs scored.
Kheirra Keith is batting .524 with 11 hits, one homer, two doubles, 12 RBIs, and five runs scored. Lizzie Palmer has a .421 average so far with eight hits, one home run, two doubles, six RBIs, and four runs scored.
Colee Crofts is hitting .417 with five hits, five RBIs, and five runs scored. Khatira Keith sports a .409 average with nine hits, three homers, one double, eight RBIs, and five runs scored.
Madden Perkins has a nice .385 batting average with ten hits, two home runs, five RBIs, and a team-high 15 runs scored. Averie Gilson is hitting .381 with eight hits, one homer, two doubles, three RBIs, and 12 runs scored.
Miley Harrison has driven in ten San Juan runs with five hits, two homers, four runs scored, and a .333 average. Morgann McPherson has five hits, one home run, three RBIs, and eight runs scored. And Keegan Palmer has four hits, one RBI, and three runs scored.
Stearns leads the Lady Bronco pitching staff with 27 strikeouts on the season. She has allowed a stingy 11 hits and six earned runs with 59 batters faced in 14.2 innings of work.
Khatira Keith has pitched 13 innings, allowing 20 hits and nine earned runs while striking out ten batters. Kheirra Keith has seven Ks with 16 hits and six earned runs in 13.1 innings.
This week was very light for San Juan considering what they experienced in the previous week. They played at Beaver, on Tuesday, March 17 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
The team is gearing up for a home-and-home series with Parowan. They’ll host the Lady Rams on Saturday, March 21, then pay a visit to Parowan on Friday, March 27.
