Lady Broncos open December with two wins

The San Juan High School girls basketball team opened the season with a couple of tough losses in November, but since then they’ve won two of their last three games, including an exciting come-from-behind 55-50 win over South Sevier December 13 in Blanding.
That game opened with a shootout in the first quarter that saw both teams pour in 16 points apiece. But the Lady Rams took control with a 14-7 second quarter to lead 30-23 at halftime.
San Juan leading scorer Khimya Fullwood was forced to spend a good portion of the first half on the bench due to foul trouble and the Lady Broncos found themselves floundering a bit.
But Kaidence Mitchell heated up and freshman Ella Stearns came off the bench on fire, teaming up with Fullwood when she returned in the second half to lead San Juan’s rally.
The girls outscored South Sevier 14-13 in the third quarter, then smothered them 18-7 in the fourth to close out a very impressive comeback win.
Mitchell led scoring for the Lady Broncos with 20 points in the win. Stearns scored a very impressive 11 points off the bench, including two key three-point baskets during their second-half surge.
Fullwood also scored 11 points for San Juan, Daveigh Mitchell added six, Syndel Atcitty four, and Madi Adams three.
In addition to Stearns’s two threes, Mitchell hit one from long range. She also led rebounding with nine boards in the win. Fullwood pulled down seven rebounds and Daveigh Mitchell got six.
The girls smoked Logan at home 67-31 to start the month on Thursday, December 4. Kaidence Mitchell also led scoring in that game with 17 points. Khimya Fullwood was right behind with 16.
Brooklyn Lameman scored seven points in the win, Madi Adams five, and the pair of Daveigh Mitchell and Ella Stearns four apiece.
Seven girls scored two points apiece in the blowout including Harmony Oshley, Evony Sampson, Taverie Johnson, Syndel Atcitty, Ellie Beck, Ava Bayles, and Jayden Benally.
San Juan suffered a 65-37 loss at Delta on December 9, their only loss so far in the month of December. Fullwood and Kaidence Mitchell both scored 14 points in that game and Atcitty tallied three.
The Lady Broncos are 2-3 on the season and will close out the 2025 portion of their schedule with three games this week. They traveled to take on Panguitch on Tuesday, December 16 too after the San Juan Record print deadline.
They will return home to host Parowan on Friday, December 19 at 5:30 p.m. and Kanab at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 20.
