Lady Broncos split Region 15 games in first weekend of 2024, pick up third win of season

The San Juan High School girls basketball team closed out 2023 with two wins and eight losses. They were looking to get in the win column when they hosted their first two games of the new year this past Friday and Saturday, January 5 and 6.
On Friday they welcomed the North Sevier Lady Wolves to Blanding for the first Region 15 game of the season. It was a fairly even matchup as their opponent was 3-8 coming into the game.
But the visitors held sway in this one, leading 10-4 after one quarter and 25-14 at halftime. The Lady Broncos rallied to outscore North Sevier 13-5 in the third quarter, pulling to within three points.
Sadly, the impressive comeback stalled as the Lady Wolves shut San Juan out 10-0 in the final frame to close out a 40-27 victory.
On Saturday, January 6 the Lady Broncos were right back at it with Gunnison Valley paying a visit to the San Juan High gym. It was a hard-fought first quarter with both teams tallying nine points.
But San Juan outscored the Lady Bulldogs 34-17 over the next two quarters to establish a solid 43-26 lead heading into the final quarter. Though the home team was outscored in the frame, they held on for their third win of the season 48-36.
Following the first weekend of 2024 the Lady Broncos are 3-9 on the season ranked 16th in the 2A RPI standings. They’ll hit the road for a long tough trip north this weekend.
First up, they face the #1 North Summit Lady Braves (12-1) on Friday, January 12. On the way home they’ll stop in Duchesne to take on the #6 Lady Eagles (9-4) on Saturday, January 13.
