The San Juan volleyball team has built some serious momentum over the course of the past three weeks, winning seven matches in a row and running their record to 11-4 on the year.
Most recently the Lady Broncos handed it to two top-ten 3A teams in Emery and Carbon, defeating both of them by a combined six sets to one.
In the first release of the official 2A Utah volleyball standings this week San Juan is ranked second behind only 10-2 North Summit.
On Tuesday, September 8 the girls traveled to Castle Dale to take on an Emery squad that had won two matches in a row and was well rested, having not played in over a week.
The Lady Broncos made quick work of the Lady Spartans, defeating them in four sets. Following that win they returned home for a day, then traveled right back up to Price to play Carbon.
The Lady Dinos had won four of their five games leading into the matchup, but the San Juan attack was too much. Again the Lady Broncos were quick out of the gate, winning the opening set of the match 25-14.
Carbon put up a fight in the following two sets, but San Juan was still able to hold them off for the victory 25-21 and 25-20.
The team’s kills leader, Faith Flannery, was at it again, registering 15 kills for the Lady Broncos. Kyliea Taylor was right behind with 13 kills in the game.
Havoc Laws and Emri Black both contributed eight kills apiece. Olivia Nielson collected a stunning 40 assists in the win.
Flannery and Taylor both served up two aces apiece, with Aspyn Ivins, Adi Ivins, and Olivia Nielson adding one each.
Defensively Havoc Laws led the team with two blocks at the net. Taya Chamberlain and Emeri Black got one block apiece.
Adi Ivins had 11 digs and Sloane Middleton had ten. Aspyn Ivins and Olivia Nielson collected seven digs apiece, while Faith Flannery had six. Havoc Laws and Kyliea Taylor had three digs each.
This week is a relatively light week for the Lady Broncos with only one event on the schedule, and it will already be in the books by the time you read this.
San Juan got to play in their home gym after a week on the road. They hosted #19 Kanab on Tuesday, September 15, just after the San Juan Record print deadline.
The coming week will be more busy with three games on the docket. First, Tuesday, September 22 brings a trip to Moab to play the rival Grand County Lady Red Devils.
Friday and Saturday, September 25-26 will provide a challenging road trip with matches at #12 Beaver and at #10 South Sevier.
