The Monticello High School volleyball team picked up their first win of the season this past Thursday, August 28 in a rivalry matchup with Dove Creek, CO in the MHS gymnasium.
The Lady Buckaroos swept the Lady Bulldogs in the match 25-16, 25-16, and 25-19. It was the first time Monticello has beaten Dove Creek in a volleyball match since September 10, 2009.
The teams didn’t play each other for ten seasons from 2010 to 2020, but Dove Creek had won eight matches in a row between the rivals from 2021 to 2024.
The Lady Bucks are 1-2 on the season and are set for a busy week on the road this week. They played Pinnacle Academy on Tuesday, September 2 in a Region 19 contest played too late for the San Juan Record print deadline.
On Friday, September 5 they travel to Piute to take on a Lady Thunderbird team that only has one win in nine games. They’ll close out the week at Wayne on Friday, September 6.
The Lady Badgers were 3-2 in second place in Region 20 to start the week and are predicted to finish third in the 1A ranks this season.
Following this week’s action the Monticello volleyball team will return home to host Region 19 rival Green River on Tuesday, September 9.
The first Utah girls volleyball RPI standings are set to be released by the Utah High School Activities Association next Wednesday, September 10.
