The Monument Valley High School volleyball team broke even over the course of the past two weeks, winning three matches and losing three. The Lady Cougars are currently ranked ninth in the Utah 1A with a 10-7 overall record.
In their match with the rival Lady Buckaroos in Monticello on September 16 Monument Valley fell behind 2-0, but rallied to win the third set 25-15. Monticello outscored them 25-14 in the fourth set, however, as the match ended in a four-set loss.
On Saturday, September 20 the Lady Cougars traveled to Aztec, NM to compete in a tournament. They split games there, beating Tse’ Yi’ Gai, NM in straight sets, but losing to Crownpoint, NM in four.
Monument Valley returned home to host Pinon, AZ this past Tuesday, September 23. That contest was a hard-fought battle with the Lady Cougars falling just short in a five-set loss.
They finished the past week on a high note, cruising to straight-sets wins over Pinnacle and Green River in Region 19 matchups on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27.
A busy run this week will leave Monument Valley with just four games left in the regular season. They began the week with a trip to Teec Nos Pos, AZ to face Red Mesa on Tuesday, September 30 the Cougars won 3-0.
On Thursday, October 2 the girls will close out their season series with Pinnacle paying a visit to the MVHS gym. And on Friday, October 3 they’ll close the week in Cortez, CO against the Montezuma-Cortez Lady Panthers.
