Local volleyball teams head to Utah Valley University for final rounds of state tourneys tournaments this weekend

The 2023 Utah State high school volleyball tournaments are underway and two of the four teams representing San Juan County have already seen some action.
In the 2A first round the #9 San Juan Lady Broncos advanced past #24 Gunnison Valley with an easy straight-sets win this past Thursday, October 19.
The tournament now moves to Utah Valley University in Orem where San Juan will have a much stiffer challenge with #8 Rowland Hall in the second round Friday, October 27 at 4 p.m.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season and the winner will likely face #1 Parowan in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
In the 1A first round this past Saturday, October 21 #18 Whitehorse suffered a straight-sets loss to #15 Altamont on the road. The Lady Raiders battled hard and kept the first two sets close before succumbing in the third.
Monument Valley and Monticello both enjoyed byes in the first round and they’ll head straight to Orem this Friday to begin play in the second round.
The #5-ranked Lady Cougars take on #12 Tintic in an early 9 a.m. start. The winner will most likely take on #4 Wendover at noon.
The #6 Lady Buckaroos face #11 Wayne at 10:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals where they’ll likely play #3 Rich at 1:30 p.m.
