Marlee Mack 1A State Track Monticello Senior Long Jump State Champion, Runnerup 300 Meter Hurdles
Head Coach Jeff Hunt: “Catastrophe struck early this year for Marlee as she took a fall in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary heat, ending her chance to repeat as the state champion in that event. Bruised and battered, she could have called it in. With swollen knees, a sore back, and more track burns than you could count, she continued to compete.
“In the 300 meter she finished second behind only Maron, but when it came down to the long jump, she pushed the pain aside and easily outdistanced the field. She followed that up with a gritty finish in the 200.
“I think the thing that says the most about her character is when she had to sit on the sidelines and watch the 100 hurdles final. I am sure she had a tear in her eye as she watched her teammate win and her sister Josie make it onto the podium. She was just as happy for those girls as she would have been if she had won it herself.”
