Monticello advances to 8-player semi-finals, Whitehorse and Monument Valley seasons conclude

Three San Juan County teams played in the Utah State Eight-Player quarterfinals on October 27. The Whitehorse season came to an end in a 26-0 loss against Water Canyon in Hildale.
While the Raiders didn’t score in the game, it was a much closer game than the teams’ first matchup of the season which Water Canyon won 80-12. The Raiders end the season with a 4-5 record.
The Monticello Buckaroos defeated the Monument Valley Cougars 60-14 in their 8-Man quarterfinal contest in Monticello.
Monticello senior quarterback JD McDonald scored on a 50-yard touchdown run and threw two touchdown passes, a ten-yard strike to Robert Morrison and a 44-yarder to Zac Thayn.
Junior Tavon Black returned a Cougar kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and also scored on a 27-yard run. Sophomore Jaeden Camacho scored on a five-yard touchdown run.
Sophomore Landon Shumway added three TDs including a 97-yard run, a 50-yard pass from Jackson Keyes, and a 65-yard fumble return which was caused by Caleb Coleman.
Monument Valley scoring was led by freshman Shayden Fatt who had a one-yard touchdown run and threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Senior Braxton Goodshield. The Cougars ended the season with a 2-7 record.
With the victory Monticello advances to the Eight-Player semifinals for the second straight year. The #2 Buckaroos (6-4) will face the #3 Altamont Longhorns (6-2) on Friday, November 3.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman and will be broadcast live on Redrock 92 Radio and redrock92.com.
