Monticello boys basketball finish season at the state tournament
On the opening day of the state tournament, the #14-seeded Buckaroos drew the #3 seed (and eventual state champions) from Panguitch. The 65-41 victory for the Bobcats was their first on their eventual state-championship winning run. Despite being outmatched, the Buckaroos played a respectable game against the state champs.
On Thursday, the Buckaroos were defeated by the Tintic Miners 64-31. The Bucks were defeated handily but had some compounding challenges with leading scorer Curtis Bunker suffering a season-ending injury in the first half and senior Mason Atwood fouling out early in the 3rd quarter on a few close calls.
Senior Buckaroo J.D. McDonald led the team in his final game, scoring 10 points for the Bucks. Cache Young scored seven, Kaden Pehrson and Traken Lee had four points, with Mason Atwood and Kooper Nielson each scoring three points.
