Monticello falls to undefeated #1 North Sevier

The Monticello Buckaroos suffered their fourth loss of the season to the undefeated North Sevier Wolves by a score of 35-7 this past Friday, September 10.

The game was called right before the start of the third quarter when lightning struck near the field.

The Wolves opened the scoring for the game midway through the first quarter on a 20-yard touchdown run. On the next possession, a blocked punt in the endzone gave the Wolves their second TD. And they added a third on a five-yard run, increasing their lead to 22-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Monticello got on the scoreboard when sophomore quarterback JD McDonald found junior receiver Landon Ewart on a slant route across the middle.

After catching the ball about seven yards beyond the line of scrimmage, Ewart turned on the jets and sprinted the rest of the way for a 69-yard touchdown.

Ewart provided another highlight in the game for the Buckaroos when he intercepted a pass, giving Monticello their only takeaway on the game. Another highlight for the Buckaroos was a 50-yard kick return by senior Logan Draper.

North Sevier scored twice in the second quarter to give the Wolves a 35-7 halftime lead.

In the passing game, McDonald completed four passes on 14 attempts for 104 yards and a touchdown. In addition to Ewart’s touchdown catch, Draper had two receptions for 37 yards, and junior running back Javlin Robison had one catch for a two-yard loss.

Robison led the Buckaroos in the run game with 11 carries for 17 yards. McDonald ran the ball eight times for five yards. Senior Carson Wells had one carry for four yards and senior Cameron Bailey had one carry for a one-yard loss.

Defensively, sophomore Thomas Fullmer and senior Tyler Thayne each had a sack. Robison had six tackles for the Bucks while Thayne, Bailey, and senior Tate Ramsay each made three tackles.

Monticello hosts Duchesne this Friday, September 17 to take on the #2 team in the recently-released 1A RPI rankings. Monticello is tenth in those same rankings.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on pictureitpalmer.com.
