Monticello girls and boys golf teams begin new season with region match in Moab

The Monticello High School girls and boys golf teams opened the season at the Moab Golf Course on Wednesday, March 11. Both teams played well with the 1A defending State Champion girls shooting a 479 and the boys carding a 384.
It’s still very early, but after one Utah event the boys lead the Region 19 standings with an average adjusted score of 371.58. They are seventh in the 1A team rankings.
The Lady Buckaroos are the only team in Region 19 with enough players to qualify for the team standings. The team is fifth in the 1A standings, just two strokes behind Milford with an adjusted average of 473.58.
Two Monticello girls appear in the early season top ten among 1A players. LE Olson is fourth with an adjusted average of 88.44 and Jane Burton is tenth with a 105.98.
For the boys, Canyon Christensen leads the team in 14th among 1A golfers with his adjusted average of 84.07.
LE Olson’s 89 led the Lady Buckaroos in Moab on March 11 and Jane Burton was second with a 107. Kendra Clutter came home third with a 128, Cailyn Harrod shot 138, and Alice Butler carded a 145.
Canyon Christensen was first for the boys in Moab with his 86. Ryan Holt and John Leber both shot a 94 to tie for second place on the team.
Jackson Keyes rounded out the scoring places with a 110 in fourth. Hayden Peterson hit 145 for Monticello and JJ Atwood carded a 150.
This past Wednesday, March 18 the Buckaroos played an exhibition round at the Adobe Creek Golf Course in Fruita, CO. The girls shot a 466 as a team, led by LE Olson’s 87.
Jane Burton hit 124, Cailyn Harrod 127, Rebecca Chamberlain 128, Kendra Clutter 129, and Alice Butler 154.
The boys shot 375 as a team in Fruita. Canyon Christensen led the team with a round of 87, Jackson Keyes came in with a 90, and Ryan Holt hit a 97.
Kooper Nielson was third for Monticello with a 101, JJ Atwood was fourth with a 118, and John Leber carded a 120.
The Buckaroo golfers are back at it this week with a trip to Green River on Thursday, March 26 to take on Region 19 opponents at the Green River Golf Course.
