Monticello girls third at state meet, boys fourth

The Monticello girls track and field team finished third at the girls 1A Utah state track and field meet at BYU on May 15-16.
Monticello High saw six athletes awarded as state champions in four events.
Leading the way was junior Maron Freestone who won titles in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Freestone ran the 100 hurdles in 16.24 seconds and the 300 in 47.18 seconds.
Also winning a title for Monticello was senior Marlee Mack in the long jump. Mack’s best mark at the meet came at 16 feet 10 and three-quarters inches. Earlier in the season Mack broke the 1A state record with a jump of 18 feet and two and a half inches.
The Monticello girls 4x400 meter relay team also won a championship at the state meet. The relay was made up of sophomore Latalia O’Harra, junior Josie Mack and freshman Alexandra Marian and Lariah O’Harra with the relay running the 1600 meters in four minutes 23 seconds.
Marlee Mack also added a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles and an 8th place finish in the 200 meter dash, while Freestone added a third place finish in the 400. Josie Mack also finished 4th in the 100 hurdles and 8th in the 300 hurdles.
The lady Buckaroos also finished fourth in the Sprint Medley relay with Myah Lewis, and Dani Black running the 200 legs, Latalia O’Harra running the 400 and Allie Carling running the 800.
The Monticello 4x100 meter relay finished in fifth place made up of Lewis, Marian, Madison Adair and Lay Petersen. Lariah O’Harra finished fifth in the 400 and 8th in the 100. Carling was 6th in the 3200 and 8th in the 1600. Adair was 7th in the discus and Latalia O’Harra rounded out point scorers for the Bucks finishing 8th in the 400.
Monticello girls tallied 82 points trailing first place Rich (150 points) and runner-up Panguitch (144). The Bucks finished 17 points better than Milford.
Coach Ivan Mack was recognized as the 1A girls coach of the year.
The Monticello boys meanwhile finished in fourth at the state meet.
The Bucks top finisher was Eli Carling who finished as runner-up in the 3200, 4th in the 1600 and 7th in the 800.
The Buckaroo relay teams also put up a series of runner-up efforts in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
The 4x100 relay team was made up of Jaeden Camacho, Kord Young, Cash Mack, and Kooper Nielson. While Monticello’s 4x400 team was made up of Camacho, Young, Nielsen and Seth Taylor.
Camacho performed well for the Buckaroos finishing third in the 100 and fourth in the 200.
Brandston Mack also added points in every event finishing fourth in the 300 hurdles, 5th in the 100, 6th in the high jump and 7th in the 200. Young finished fourth in the high jump.
Taylor added a 5th place finish in the 300 hurdles and 6th in the 110 hurdles.
Cash Mack finished 6th in the 200 and 8th in the long jump while Nielson finished 6th in the 300 hurdles.
Monticello scored 75 points finishing behind first place Panguitch (135 points) Rich (113), and Milford (90) with the Bucks finishing ahead of Tintic (63).
