Monticello softball is looking for play-in upset

The Monticello High School softball team was 0-14 heading into the week beginning April 29, and the team was ranked 19th in the 2A RPI standings before they were taken offline by the Utah High School Activities Association.
The Lady Buckaroos suffered losses to local rivals Grand County on April 18 and San Juan on April 23 before being swept in a 2A Central doubleheader by North Sevier on April 26.
Monticello closed out their regular season with a region doubleheader at home against Gunnison Valley on Tuesday, April 30 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
They will be looking for an upset in a play-in game this Saturday, May 4 when they open the 2024 2A Utah State Softball Tournament on the road. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. but the opponent and location are still to be determined.
