Monticello suffers loss in Dove Creek

The Monticello Buckaroo football team suffered a 64-35 loss in Dove Creek Sept. 26. The Bulldogs scored the first two touchdowns of the game but Monticello scored on a 72-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Keyes to Tommy Morrison to cut the deficit in half late in the first quarter.
Dove Creek responded by returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to lead 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs added another TD in the second quarter to increase their lead to 30-7. The Buckaroos answered with a scoring drive that was capped by a 21-yard touchdown pass from Keyes to Kord Young. A two-point conversion made the score 30-15.
Dove Creek responded three plays later with another touchdown but Monticello’s next play from scrimmage was a 69-yard touchdown run by Jaeden Camacho, making the score 38-23.
Not to be slowed down, the Bulldogs returned another kickoff for a touchdown and added two more TDs to lead 52-23 at halftime.
The home team picked up where they left off, scoring early in the third quarter to make the count 58-23 but Monticello responded with their own scoring drive capped by a 53-yard pass from Keyes to Cache Young.
After an interception by Morrison the Buckaroos struck again with Keyes throwing a 90-yard TD pass to Morrison to make the score 58-35 after three quarters.
Dove Creek added one final touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final count 64-35.
Keyes threw for 342 yards in the loss, completing 14 of 39 attempts for four touchdowns and three interceptions.
Morrison led the Bucks with four catches for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Cache Young had four catches for 105 yards and one touchdown.
Kord Young brought in one catch for a 21-yard touchdown and Camacho had three catches for 26 yards.
Camacho led the Monticello running game with 76 yards on five carries while Landon Shumway earned 17 yards on five carries.
Leber led the Buckaroo defense with 20 tackles, Morrison had 16, and Shumway had ten. Camacho and Canyon Christensen also had nine each.
Morrison snagged the one interception and also caused a fumble. Shumway also caused a fumble and both were recovered by Christensen. Leber, Peyton Hatathley, and Tristan Burtenshaw all recorded sacks in the game.
This week Monticello (2-4) returns home to host the Whitehorse Raiders (4-0) in a cross-county matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, October 3 and you can watch all the action live on StreamUtah.Live.
