Monticello track and field team hosts local teams in annual Blue Mountain Invitational

Track and field athletes from Monticello, San Juan, Whitehorse, Monument Valley, and four other schools competed at the Blue Mountain Invitational in Monticello on Friday, April 24.
The San Juan boys finished in first place at the meet. The Broncos were led by Tripp Palmer who finished first in the high jump clearing six feet, four inches. Palmer was also second in the long jump and second in the 100-meter dash.
Cash Palmer finished first in the shot put with a distance of 51-2.0 and was also second in the discus. Miken Kieth finished first in the javelin with a throw of 150 feet. He took third in the 100 meter.
Platte Lyman finished first in the 1600 with a time of 4:49 and was also third in the 3200. Brigg Palmer finished first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.47 and was also fifth in both the 100 and shot put.
Rosendo Martine finished second in the 3200 and eighth in the 1600. Kai Fox was third in the shot put, fifth in the discus, and seventh in the javelin.
George McNaughtan finished fourth in the high jump and fifth in the long jump. Keegan McCullough was fourth in the 3200 and sixth in the 800. Thomas Hardin finished fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot put.
Ryan Shumway was fourth in the javelin, seventh in the shot put, and eighth in the discus. Finishing in fourth place were Danny Price in the long jump and Trey Bradford in the shot put.
Fifth-place finishes included Jett Richmond in the javelin and Peter Lyman in the 3200. Max Stearns was sixth in the long jump, Jeraden Hurst seventh in the 800, and Quincy Singer eighth in the 400.
The Broncos also won the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 45.14. The team consisted of Miken Keith, Brigg Palmer, Tripp Palmer, and Max Stearns.
San Juan was also second in the sprint medley with a team of Cameron Adair, Max Stearns, Jeraden Hurst, and Rosendo Martine.
The Monticello girls finished as runners-up to Grand County at their home meet. The Lady Buckaroos were led by Marlee Mack who finished first in the long jump with a leap of 16-4.75. She also finished second in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and third in the 100.
Maron Freestone placed second in the 400, third in the 100 hurdles, and fourth in the 300 hurdles. Makenna Peterson finished second in the 1600 and fourth in the 800.
Allie Carling finished second in the 3200 and fifth in the 800. Madison Adair finished second in the discus. Murryn Suttlemyre was third in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600.
Lay Petersen finished third in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100. Josie Mack was fourth in the 100 hurdles and 200 meter. She took fifth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100.
Alex Marian finished fourth in the 400. Brenna Baxter was fifth in the 1600 and sixth in the 3200. Elise Taylor finished fifth in the shot put, while Olivia Plemons was seventh in the 300 hurdles.
The Monticello girls also finished third in the 4x100 relay with a team of Madison Adair, Myah Lewis, Alex Marian, and Lay Petersen.
The Buckaroo boys finished in third place at the meet led by Cash Mack who finished in first place in three events. Mack won the 100 meter with a time of 11.32, the 200 with a time of 24.02, and the long jump with a distance of 19-9.
Kooper Nielson finished first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.72 and took seventh in the 100 hurdles. Eli Carling won the 3200, crossing the line in 10:58 and was fifth in the 1600.
Seth Taylor finished second in both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Brandt Mack finished second in the high jump and third in the 100. Christian Hunt finished fifth in the 110 hurdles and eighth in the 300 hurdles.
Bryson Adair was sixth in the 110 hurdles and seventh in the 300 hurdles. Carter Francom finished seventh in the high jump.
The Buckaroos also finished second in the 4x100 meter relay with a team made up of Cash Mack, Thomas Morrison, Kooper Nielson, and Seth Taylor.
The San Juan girls finished fourth at the meet led by Keezie Flannery who won the high jump, clearing the bar at four feet, 11 inches. She also finished fifth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the long jump.
Sadie Palmer also finished in first place in the javelin with a throw of 112-10. Myra Zohnnie finished second in the javelin, sixth in the discus, and sixth in the shot put.
Adison Ivins finished second in the high jump and sixth in the long jump. Faith Flannery earned third in the high jump and fifth in the long jump. Lucy Black finished third in the discus.
Three Lady Broncos picked up fourth-place finishes – Addison Helquist in the long jump and 100-meter dash, Brinkley Knight in the javelin, and Ava Duke in the 3200.
Finishing in seventh place were Lyvanna Benn in the discus and Sloane Middleton in the 400. San Juan’s Eihaazbah Dejolie also finished eighth in the 3200.
The Whitehorse girls came home fifth as a team. The Lady Raiders were led by Keiarra Martin who finished sixth in the 200 and ninth in the 100.
Maria Yellowman finished seventh in the high jump and Laylah Benally was eighth in the long jump. In the relays the Whitehorse girls were runners-up in the medley and fifth in the 4x100.
Both relay teams were made up of LaKyra Begay, Laylah Benally, Maria Yellowman, and Keiarra Martin.
The Monument Valley girls finished in sixth place at the meet led by Summer Atene who finished third in the 1600 and sixth in the 800. Samara Sheppard finished third in the shot put while Zaira Holliday was eighth in that event.
The Whitehorse boys also finished in sixth place and were led by Elam Etsitty who was third in the 400 and sixth in the high jump.
The Monument Valley boys were eighth with points coming from Josiah Gipe who finished eighth in the 3200.
The Monticello and San Juan teams will travel to Cedar City this Friday and Saturday, May 1-2 to compete in the SUU Coliseum Championships. Region championships for all the teams are set for next week.
