Monticello Vaqueras win third place at 2A state drill competition

The Monticello High School Vaqueras drill team finished third at the recent 2A State Drill Team Competition, held February 6 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.

The Vaqueras finished third in all three events, including Military, Dance, and Show.

Enterprise and Kanab finished first and second, just ahead of Monticello.

The drill team faced a host of challenges along the way, including several weeks when competition was shut down because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Team members include Whitney Knudson, Elli Nielson, Adri Bird, Cami Lewis, Sadie Adair, Saydi Young, Gabbi Dowell, Charlei Hoggard, Olive English, Ashley Musselman, Emry Wilcox, Stevie Young, Emilee Robinson, Peaches Ramsay, Abi Christensen, Emma Peterson, and Cameron Dowell.

The team is coached by Ashley Adair and Kiersten Anderson.

Whitney Knudson and Elli Nielson were named to the all-state team, in addition to being on the Academic All-State team.

Adri Bird, Kammy Lewis, and Sadie Adair are on the all-region team.
