Monticello volleyball team rebounds from slow start with three wins in last four games

The Monticello High School volleyball season began with a couple of tough losses to Grand County in straight sets and Montezuma-Cortez in four sets on August 18 and 21 respectively.
But the Lady Buckaroos bounced back to win three out of their last four matches, improving their record to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 19 play.
The team beat Mancos in four sets on the road August 25 before returning home for a three-game homestand. They fell to Dolores in straight sets on August 27.
This past week Monticello beat Piute in four sets on August 28 and swept Pinnacle on September 1 for their first region win of the season.
Only 11 sets of stats are recorded for the team on MaxPreps, but according to those stats Maron Freestone leads the team with 33 kills.
Josie Mack has 13 kills on the season. Jane Burton, Katie Francom, and Sloan Flinn all have 12 each. Mack leads the team with 42 assists, Flinn has 18, and Isabelle Lundelle has 11.
Defensively, Josie Mack has 45 digs to lead the team. Ayslee Whipple has 33 digs, Jane Burton has 29, Maron Freestone 23, and Eve Morrison 20.
Josie Mack and Shelby Rogers both have a team-high six blocks. Sloan Flinn has five digs and Katie Francom has four.
The Lady Buckaroos are set for a fairly busy week at the San Juan Record print deadline. They played at Green River on Tuesday, September 8.
They’ll return home to host local rival Dove Creek on Thursday, September 10 before hitting the road again to take on Rock Point, AZ on Friday, September 11. The Lady Cougars have won seven games in a row.
