Following tough losses to Grand County and Dove Creek on September 5 and 7 the Monticello High School volleyball team bounced back for straight-sets wins over Pinnacle and Montezuma-Cortez this past Tuesday and Friday, September 12 and 15.
The Lady Buckaroos demolished the Pinnacle Lady Panthers in Price on Tuesday 25-11, 25-11, and 25-18. They returned home to face the Montezuma-Cortez Lady Panthers and smoked them too, 25-13, 25-17, and 25-23.
With the wins Monticello improved to 6-8 on the year. They’re ranked eighth in the 1A RPI standings current on September 19.
The Lady Buckaroos had a golden opportunity to move up in the standings this week when they faced the 5-0 and #1 Monument Valley Lady Cougars in the MHS gymnasium.
That game was played on Tuesday, September 19 after the San Juan Record press deadline. We’ll have the result for you in the September 27 issue of the paper.
Monticello is gearing up for a very busy week next week with games at Whitehorse September 26, at home versus Green River on September 28, and at Montezuma-Cortez on September 29.
