Monticello wrestlers host rivals San Juan and Grand County

The Monticello Buckaroos hosted their first and only home dual of the season this past Wednesday, January 20, facing off against the rivals San Juan and Grand County.

Prior to the match four Buckaroo seniors, Tuff Adair, Paxton Christensen, Robert Musselman, and Brevin Olson, were honored along with their parents. 

First up for the Buckaroos was Treydon Harris who faced Grand’s Landon Moralez. Moralez got the early takedown and won by fall in the first period.

Buckaroo Paxton Christensen picked up the first MHS win, defeating San Juan’s Nolan Cressler by technical fall, 15-0. 

Next up for MHS was Brevin Olson who took to the mat against Bronco Trace Bennett. Olson jumped out to an early lead and continued to score on the wayto a 15-0 technical fall win.

Buckaroo Tyler Thayn defeated Red Devil Aiden Gordon with a strong 9-0 win.  

Buckaroo Logan Draper and Jeter Perkins from San Juan had a hard-fought battle, with Perkins edging draper in a 7-5 victory.

Buckaroo Robert Musselman took on Bronco Tyler Winn. Musselman had a good lead when he secured the win by fall in the first period. 

Buckaroo Oakley Adams wrestled hard against Landon Burke of San Juan. Burke scored eight unanswered points in the major decision win for the Broncos.

Tuff Adair scored another win for the Buckaroos over Jeffery Davis of Grand, finishing 16-0 in the dominating technical fall win. 

Bronco Trace Bennett was defeated by fall by Aiden Gordon of Grand. Grand’s Landon Moralez scored a win by fall over Bronco Nolan Cressler.

Thomas Fullmer took to the mat for MHS against Jeter Perkins in his second match of the night for the Broncos. Fullmer worked hard but couldn’t find enough ways to score against Perkins, who won the match 5-1.

Callen Burk of San Juan defeated Jeffrey Davis of Grand with a first period fall.

Buckaroo Tuff Adair earned a big technical fall win, 16-1, over Bronco Corbin Bradford. Bradford also wrestled against Grand’s Jeffrey Davis and was defeated by fall in the first period.

The Buckaroos will compete in the 2A Divisional tournament at Beaver High School on Thursday, January 28.

The Broncos are headed to the 3A Divisional tournament on Friday, February 5.
