Monument Valley basketball teams marching toward post-season play

The Monument Valley High School basketball teams took a region road trip over the weekend. The boys and girls basketball teams played in Price against Pinnacle on February 3 before playing in Green River on February 4.
The Monument Valley girls team defeated Pinnacle on February 3 by a score of 69-28 in a game they led wire to wire.
The Lady Cougars were led in scoring by Shimequa Hudson who scored 21 points in the game. Raemi Nez scored 17 while Alyah Blackwater scored 10 points for Monument Valley.
Chiannne Bedoni scored five on the game while Mariah Begaye, Shikeeya Hudson, and Keilana Smith all scored four points. Precious Bedonie and Earlynda Bedonie each scored two in the game.
The Cougar’s boys team was defeated by Pinnacle 61-49. The Cougars grabbed a 10-9 lead after one quarter but the Panthers won the 2nd quarter to give them a halftime lead of 31-18.
After three quarters the Panthers led 42-30 both teams scored 19 points in the final quarter to make the score 61-49.
February 4 saw the same results as the Monument Valley girls earned another region win while the boys lost their game.
The Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Pirates in Green River by a score of 72-53.
Nez led scoring with Monument Valley with 21 points, while Blackwater scored 16. Shimequa Hudson scored 11 while Chianne Bedoni scored eight.
Begaye scored seven, while Precious Bedonie scored six and Earlynda Bedonie scored two, Lillianna Fatt scored one point in the game as well.
The boys from Monument Valley were defeated by Green River 79-69. The Cougars fell behind 23-14 after one quarter. Monument Valley closed the gap slightly in the 2nd quarter for a halftime score of 35-29.
After three quarters, Green River remained ahead 56-50, with the final score favoring the Pirates 79-69.
Both Monument Valley teams are off this week. They close the final week of the regular season visiting Monticello on Valentines Day, before hosting Whitehorse for the Battle of the Drum on February 16.
