Monument Valley basketball teams season comes to a close
The Monument Valley Cougars girls basketball team earned the #10 seed in the 1A girls state tournament but was unable to get the upset on the road against #7 Valley in the second round of the state tournament.
After earning a first round bye the Cougars made the trip to Orderville to play the Buffalos where the home team got the 42-29 win.
Monument Valley girls finished the season with a 14-10 record including 6-2 in region play to finish 2nd in Region 19.
Monument Valley was led on the year by Dakotah Cly who averaged 17.3 points per game, Malayah Blackmountain scored 9, Nesbah Hunt had 8.3, LeighAn Atene averaged 7.9 and Taylor Stanley had 7.5.
Monument Valley fans will say so long to seniors Dakotah Cly, Ayainna Cly, LeighAn Atene, and Taylor Stanley.
The Monument Valley Cougars boys basketball team also saw their season end in the first round of the 1A state playoffs. The #22 seed made the trip to #11 Tintic for a first round matchup on February 17. Tintic earned the 72-27 win over the Cougars.
Monument Valley ended the season with a 4-20 record including 1-7 in region play to finish 5th in Region 19.
The Cougars were led on the year by Jake Deswood who averaged 10.6 points per game, Akcheta Shortman averaged 9.4, and Alexander Hicks who averaged 7.8.
Shortman led the team averaging 5.9 rebounds per game while Caleb Cly averaged 4.2 and Hicks averaged 3.2.
Deswood led the team with 2.0 assists per game, while Cly averaged 1.9, and Shortman averaged 1.1.
Shortman led the team averaging 3 steals per game while Cly averaged 2.8 and Riley Stanley averaged 2.4. Shortman also averaged .5 blocks per game.
Monument Valley will say goodbye to seniors Riley Stanley and Akcheta Shortman.
