Monument Valley basketball teams wrap up regular season gear up for state

The Monument Valley basketball teams wrapped up their regular season playing in Monticello.
The Monument Valley girls basketball team defeated Monticello on February 11.
The Monument Valley girls team held a 34-12 lead at halftime with the Cougars ultimately prevailing 68-20.
Monument Valley was led by Dakotah Cly who finished with 16 points, while Malaya Blackmountain scored 15 and Kaylisa Tome and Ayainna Cly each had 10 points. Shikeeyah Hudson added eight points while Nesbah Hunt scored six and Taylor Stanley had three.
The Monument Valley girls are the eight seed in the state tournament and will play nine seed Piute at the Sevier Valley Center on February 26 at 2:30 pm.
The Monument Valley boys basketball team lost their last regular season game in Monticello on February 11.
Monticello built a 47-22 halftime lead that expanded to 71-22 before the Cougars forfeited the remainder of the game in the second half.
The Cougars were led by senior Brice Goodshield who scored 16 points in the game, Akecheta Shortman scored four and Tobias Grey had two points.
Shortman led the team with six rebounds, and four assists. Shortman and Goodshield each had two steals in the game.
Monument Valley earned the 21 seed in the 1A state tournament and will travel to Montezuma Creek on February 22 to take on the#12 seed Whitehorse Raiders. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 1:00 pm.
