The Monument Valley High School girls and boys basketball teams opened their seasons this past Friday, November 22 with Rough Rock, AZ paying a visit to the Cougars.
Both teams were victorious in their opening games, but one was a bit more exciting than the other. For the girls it was easy work. They cruised to a very convincing 75-25 win over the Lady Sun Devils.
But the boys had a tougher task in their game. The Cougars had to outlast Rough Rock in a hard-fought barnburner that ended in a 60-59 final.
Both Monument Valley teams will take the momentum of their season-opening wins into the Thanksgiving break.
Their next games are set for Thursday, December 5 when they head to Shiprock, NM to begin play at the Shiprock Chieftain Invitational. The tournament will feature several games for the Cougars, lasting through the weekend.
