Raider wrestlers earn titles

The Whitehorse High School wrestling team scored 66 points to finish 16th out of 24 teams at the Battle at the Mine at Tintic High School in Eureka, UT this past Saturday, January 11.
The Raiders were led by Lance Tsinigine who won the championship at 136-143 pounds with a win by fall over Dante Rodriguez of Delta. Tsinigine was 4-0 for the tournament with all four wins by fall and scored 24 points.
Riley Benally earned a second-place finish at 128-133 pounds for Whitehorse, scoring 18 points and going 3-2. He picked up two wins by fall and one by medical forfeit, losing his championship match by 20-3 technical fall to Lincoln’s Cyler Leeds.
Hunter Tsinigine also came home in second place at 137-145 pounds with 16 points and a 4-1 record at the tournament. He earned two wins by fall, one by 15-12 sudden victory, and one by 12-5 tiebreaker. His only loss was in the championship match when he was forced to medically forfeit.
Malakai Rentz brought home a fifth place finish for the Raiders at 248-292 pounds, scoring eight points and going 4-1 on the weekend. After he lost his first match Rentz put together an impressive run of four straight wins, all by fall.
Dante Silas and Sanford Begay also wrestled hard for the team at the tournament but were unable to score any points.
The Whitehorse wrestlers will travel to Blanding on Wednesday, January 15 to compete in a quad with San Juan, Monument Valley, and Grand County. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
