Raiders go 2-0 at 1A preview

The Whitehorse Raiders went 2-0 at the 1A preview in Richfield. The Raiders opened play with an exciting comeback victory over Escalante on December 13. The Raiders fell behind 14-8 after one quarter and trailed by 13 points at half by a score of 27-14. Whitehorse shot just 21-percent from the field in the first half and 14-percent from three but boosted that to 40-percent in the second half and 41-percent from three in the second half.
The Raider second half started by outsourcing Escalante by nine points in the third quarter making the score 29-33 at the end of the third quarter. The Raiders tied the score 35-35 with six minutes remaining in the game by a three point shot from senior Dominic Dance, Dance hit another three to give the Raiders a lead they wouldn’t relinquish down the stretch as the Raiders defeated Escalante 49-46.
Dance lead all scorers with 18 points including four made three point shots, two other field goals and two free throws. Freshman Hyatt Thomas added 17 points shooting 7 for 12 from the field including one three made and two free throws added. Adam Joe scored five for Whitehorse while Tristan Black scored four, Brayden John three and Kalin Tohonnie two. Adam Joe helped the Raiders on the glass pulling in nine rebounds to lead the team, while Black recorded three steals, and one block. Teammate Aiden Hamm also had one block while Tohonnie and Elam Etsitty both recorded two assists to lead the team.
On December 14 the Raiders blew out the Telos Titans by a final score of 82-32 in a game they led from start to finish.
Thomas led all scorers with 27 points, Black scored 11 while Dance had 10. Adam Joe scored eight points while Tohonnie and Riley Begay each scored five. Hamm and Taylen Miller scored four, Jayden John scored three, Etsitty and Brayden John scored two and Caiden Lansing had one point.
Adam Joe once again led the team with 10 rebounds, while Hamm had six. Thomas led the team with four steals, Thomas, Joe and Brayden John all recorded two assists in the game as well.
The Raiders played Monticello on December 17 after the print deadline. They’re next in action on January 3 against Green River.
