Raiders go 2-1 for the week in region play

The Whitehorse basketball teams went 2-1 over the weekend in a couple of home games.
The Whitehorse girls team defeated Pinnacle 73-21 in region play on January 20. The Lady Raiders built a 15-8 lead after one quarter extending the lead to 40-18 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Raiders blanked the Panthers and put up 20 points to make the score 60-18 through three. The Raiders won the final quarter of play as well to make the score 73-21.
Whitehorse girls team improved to 5-9 on the year and is ranked #15 in the 1A RPI.
The Whitehorse boys basketball team was defeated by Pinnacle 68-59 on January 20.
The Raiders built a 22-15 lead after one quarter, but the Panthers bounced back in the second quarter to take a one point lead at halftime 33-32.
In the third quarter the Panthers outscored the Raiders by 11 points making the score 52-40. The Raiders tried to rally in the fourth but were defeated 68-59.
The Raiders were led in scoring by D’Wayne Nakai, who had 24 points on the game. Teammate Lyric Phillips scored 16, while Dominic Dance had 10 and Camron Nakai scored nine.
The Raiders went right back to work on January 21 while hosting Escalante. Whitehorse won the game 76-71.
The Raiders built an 18-10 lead after one quarter. That lead was the key difference as Escalante matched scoring in the second and third quarters.
Whitehorse led 41-33 at halftime and 58-50 after three quarters. The Raiders held on to their lead in the fourth to win the game 76-71.
Whitehorse was led in scoring on the game by the games of Lyric Phillips and D’Wayne Nakai, who each had 23 points.
Camron Nakai added 14 points for the Raiders. Dance scored five, while Kalin Tohonnie had three and Tristan Black had two points.
The boys team is 7-9 on the year and is ranked #12 in the 1A RPI.
Both Whitehorse teams have just one game this week as they host Monument Valley on Friday, January 27 in the Battle of the Drum.
