Rodeo champion earns two titles in Las Vegas
Hatch area six-year-old Klay Tohsonii is San Juan County’s youngest rodeo world champion.
Klay competed in and won two Six and Under World Dummy Roping Championships last weekend.
On December 9, Klay won the 2021 Six and Under Stetson Country Christmas World Dummy Roping Championship in Las Vegas, NV. Klay roped a plastic calf at a 15-foot distance to win the world title.
Two days later, Klay roped a 12-foot distance at the 2021 Rope Smart Competition.
Klay was awarded two plastic dummy calves, cowboy gear, gift certificates, and two personalized belt buckles nearly the size of his face.
He is also the current title holder of the INFR 2021 Kids Dummy Roping Championship and was recognized by Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez.
Klay Tohsonii is six years old; his parents are Nicholas Tohsonii and Chassity Benward.
He is a Kindergarten student at Montezuma Creek Elementary School.
