San Juan and Monticello baseball to State
The San Juan and Monticello high school baseball teams have both concluded their regular seasons and are gearing up for the 2A Utah State Tournament.
The Broncos finished the year with two wins over Grand County, one over Bayfield, CO, and a loss at Montezuma-Cortez, CO. They’re 12-8, ranked fourth in the Utah 2A standings.
The Buckaroos closed their season with two losses to South Sevier and a win over Dolores, CO. They’re 10-9, ranked eighth in the 2A standings.
The state tournament bracket won’t be revealed until this Friday, May 1, just one day before the tournament begins.
San Juan was in good position to host a POD Site tournament, which consists of a group of four teams playing through the first two rounds of the tournament.
One of the teams in each of the four PODs across the state will advance to the state quarterfinals May 7 at BYU, two teams will advance to play May 5 in the one-loss bracket, and one team will be eliminated from the tournament.
Monticello will travel to play in their POD this weekend, likely to Beaver where the #1 Beavers will host a group of four teams.
