San Juan and Monticello Basketball teams playoff path announced

The 2A and 3A Utah High School Activities Association basketball brackets have been announced.

Leading the way for local teams is the San Juan High School boy’s team. The Broncos earned the 5 seed in the 3A ranks, Monticello boy’s team earned a 10 seed in the 2A tournament. San Juan Girls were ranked 11 and Monticello girl’s ranked 19.

All four local teams will participate in the state tournament.

Monticello girls will be on the road on Wednesday to take on St. Joseph’s a private school in Ogden. If the girls win they’ll hit the road again in a second round game on Friday in Beaver

Monticello boys and San Juan boys will be in action on Friday.

The broncos will host Summit Academy in Blanding, while the buckaroos will travel to Duchesne to take on the eagles.

The lady broncos will play their first round game on Saturday traveling to Salt Lake to take on Judge Memorial.

Local teams who win this next week will advance to the state tournament in Richfield. 2A teams will play on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while the 3A tournament takes place Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Bringing you the action will be Red Rock 92.7 FM. The radio station has partnered with PictureItPalmer.com to bring local games to the homes of San Juan County hoops fans.

The final rankings that determine seeding at the state tournament are based on an RPI formula. The formula calculates a team’s win percentage, their opponents win percentage and the win percentage of a team’s opponent’s opponents to gauge rankings for the tournament.

Due to COVID-19 concerns and Navajo Nation health orders Navajo Mountain, Whitehorse and Monument Valley school’s are learning remotely, and have not fielded extra-curricular teams this year.
