San Juan boys golf team continues to hone their game as they head toward postseason

The San Juan High School boys golf team has continued to improve as the 2023 season has gone along, and now they are heading into their final match before the 2A Utah State Tournament.
In the three matches they played in the first three weeks of September, the Broncos dropped their average team score from 452 strokes per round to 407 strokes per round.
As of the week beginning September 25 they were 14th among 2A teams in the state and fourth in Region 15 behind Grand County, North Summit, and Gunnison Valley.
The team shot their best round as a team this season at the Roosevelt Municipal Golf Course on September 6 with a 397. Sophomore Nash Jones stepped up to lead the team with his best round of the year, a 98.
RJ Dalley and Jett Johnson both shot 99 in Roosevelt and Wes Jones rounded out the top four with a 101. Kaleb Johnson shot 104, Cooper Yoakam got a 110, Kavan Harris shot 118, and Denim Howell carded a 131.
At the Carbon Country Club in Price on September 13 the San Juan golfers battled tough windy conditions to shoot a 481.
Junior Wes Jones led individually with a solid 97, his best round of the season. Nash Jones shot a 102, Kavan Harris carded a 137, Denim Howell got a 145, and Lachlan Lacy shot 148.
This past Wednesday, September 20 the Broncos traveled to Richfield to play the Cove View Golf Course where the team bounced back from a tough round in Price to shoot 408.
Senior RJ Dalley led the way, matching his season best with a round of 97. Nash Jones shot 99, Wes Jones carded a 101, and Kaleb Johnson got a 111.
Cooper Yoakam came home with a 112, Jett Johnson shot 117, Kavan Harris got a 127, and Denim Howell shot 147 in Richfield.
Through seven matches Dalley leads San Juan with an average of 99 shots per round. Nash Jones is second with a 102-shot average. Wes Jones is averaging 104, Jett Johnson 111, and Kaleb Johnson 116.
The team played their final round of the regular season at the Round Valley Golf Course in Morgan, UT on Wednesday, September 27, after the San Juan Record print deadline.
The 2023 2A Utah State Golf Tournament is set for Wednesday and Thursday, October 4-5 at the Glendale Golf Course in Salt Lake City.
