San Juan boys soccer team sets new mark for most wins in a season, gears up for state tourney

The San Juan High School boys soccer team picked up wins over Grand County and Parowan in the two weeks since spring break concluded, running their record to five wins and nine losses on the season.
The five wins this year sets a new mark for the Broncos for most wins in a season since the beginning of the current program in 2019.
They were looking for one more win to close the regular season when they played Beaver on the road on Tuesday, April 21 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
On Tuesday, April 14 San Juan beat Grand County in an exciting 5-4 overtime thriller. It was the Broncos’ first victory over the Red Devils in program history.
Grand won the first matchup between the rivals this season 9-1 on March 19.
It wasn’t pretty. The Broncos had to outlast a stout Grand County rally after they built a 4-0 first-half lead. The Red Devils scored four goals in the second half to tie the game and force the extra period.
San Juan stopped the bleeding and netted the only goal in the overtime to secure their fourth win of the season. Renton Cardall led the way for the Broncos with two goals.
Wesley Berrett, Jace Walker, and Cannon Kartchner all scored one goal each in the win. Staley Dandy registered one assist and goalkeeper Wyatt Keith made 17 saves for San Juan.
The Broncos opened the current week with an impressive 3-0 win over the Parowan Rams in Blanding on Monday, April 20. They scored two goals in the first half and added one in the second to secure the victory.
Wyatt Keith made 15 saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Two goals are reported in the MaxPreps stats – one for Renton Cardall and one for Wesley Berrett.
In addition to the wins the Broncos suffered four losses in the two weeks since spring break. On April 7 they fell to South Sevier at home 4-1. Jace Walker scored the San Juan goal and Keith made 15 saves.
They lost 3-1 at Enterprise on April 9 with Noah Begay scoring the goal and Keith stopping an astounding 30 shots on net.
This past Friday, April 17 the Broncos suffered a 4-0 loss at Gunnison Valley. Keith is the main reason it wasn’t worse as he stopped 33 Bulldog shots in the game.
And before the most recent win San Juan fell at Millard 6-1. Jace Walker scored the San Juan goal and Keith made 19 saves.
The 2A Boys Soccer Utah State Tournament bracket was set to be revealed on Wednesday, April 22 at the print deadline.
The Broncos will travel to play their first round game, tentatively this Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
