San Juan boys take third, girls fourth in annual Nyle Norris Track and Field Invitational

The San Juan High School boys track and field team scored 90 points to finish third at the 2025 Nyle Norris Invitational at Richfield High School this past Saturday, April 5.
The host Wildcats scored 179 points to take the team title at the event and South Sevier was second with 95 points, just five points ahead of the Broncos.
The San Juan earned their third-place finish represented by only nine athletes, a pretty impressive feat. Tripp Palmer led the way individually with 26 points on the day.
Palmer won the high jump when he cleared the bar at six feet, six inches. He won the javelin with a throw of 163-2. And he was third in the long jump, sailing 19-8.5.
Sophomore Andrew Nielson scored nine individual points for the Broncos, finishing fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a run of 43.37 seconds. He was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 17.69.
Nielson was also part of second-place team finishes in the 4x100 relay and sprint medley relay, collecting 16 more points for the team.
His mates in the 4x100 were Stetson Black, Cole Duke, and JD Palmer. Running with Nielson in the sprint medley were Oren Bradford, Abram Lyman, and Platte Lyman.
San Juan dominated the 3200 meter with five runners placing in the top six, collecting 26 team points. Sophomore Oren Bradford was second in 11:59.95, freshman Keegan McCullough took third in 12:00.1, senior Austin Pincock was fourth in 12:13.85, freshman Jeraden Hurst fifth in 12:20.62, and sophomore James Gosney was sixth in 12:36.35.
Senior Abram Lyman came home fifth in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 55.09 for four points. Sophomore Platte Lyman was seventh in the 1600 with his effort of 5:00.26, collecting two points.
And the Broncos finished fifth in the 4x400 relay with the team of Trace Bilbao, Andrew Moses, Cameron Adair, and Quincy Singer crossing the line in 4:14.46 to score four team points.
The girls team scored 50 points to take fourth behind Richfield (180 pts), South Sevier (101), and North Sevier (96). The San Juan boys and girls combined for 140 total points to come home fourth, trailing North Sevier by just nine points.
Senior Savannah Richmond accounted for the only individual event championship for the Lady Broncos, winning the discus with a throw of 103 feet even, collecting ten points for her team.
Sophomore Sincere Nez scored nine points, finishing second in the 3200 with a run of 12:57.85 and taking eighth in the 1600 with a 5:59.36.
Fellow sophomore Ada Lyman took third in the 3200, crossing the line in 13:57.96 to score six points. Junior Keezie Flannery was third in the high jump, clearing four feet, eight inches and collecting 5.5 points.
Sophomore Adison Ivins took fifth in the high jump, also clearing 4-8, but only earned 3.5 points in a five-way tie.
Junior Brinley Jones added three points to the tally with her sixth-place finish in the 3200 in 14:56.75. Senior Hayden Shumway was seventh in the shot put with a nice effort of 30-1.0, earning two points.
The San Juan girls took third in the sprint medley relay with the team of Addison Helquist, Ada Lyman, Sincere Nez, and Brinley Jones coming home in 5:09.33 to earn six points.
And the 4x100 relay team of Keezie Flannery, Adison Ivins, Addison Helquist, and Aspyn Ivins finished fifth in 54.70, collecting five points for the Lady Broncos.
A week prior to their trip to Richfield the San Juan track and field teams were just a few miles down the road in Salina for the North Sevier Invitational on Saturday, March 29.
The boys took fourth place with 68.6 points and the girls were fifth with 52.8 points. In the combined team scores the Broncos were fifth with 121.4 points, just 6.2 points behind fourth-place Rich.
Scoring highlights on the day included Tripp Palmer’s continued dominance in the javelin and high jump. He won both events and also finished fourth in the long jump, scoring 24 points.
Junior Cash Palmer scored 10.8 points for the Broncos with a win in the shot put. Abram Lyman was third in the 800 and seventh in the 400 for seven points on the day.
Andrew Nielson scored six points with a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles and eighth place in the 300 hurdles. Austin Pincock crossed the line sixth in the 3200, bringing home three points for the team.
Senior JD Palmer was seventh in the high jump for two points and Platte Lyman was eighth in the 800 for one.
The San Juan boys sprint medley team of Abram Lyman, Platt Lyman, Oren Bradford, and Andrew Nielson won their race, scoring 10.8 team points.
And the 4x100 team of Stetson Black, Cole Duke, Andrew Nielson, and JD Palmer was fourth, tallying four points.
For the girls in Salina the duo of Savannah Richmond and Hayden Shumway continued their dominance as well.
Richmond won the discus and took third in the shot put while Shumway took second in both of those events and the two combined for 30.8 points.
Sincere Nez collected seven points for the Lady Broncos with a fourth-place finish in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600. Keezie Flannery was fifth in the long jump and eighth in the high jump, scoring 5.5 points.
Ada Lyman added three points to San Juan’s tally with a sixth-place finish in the 3200. Sophomore Sadie Palmer took eighth in the javelin for one point. Adison Ivins was eighth in the high jump, scoring 0.5.
And the girls 4x100 relay team consisting of Keezie Flannery, Adison Ivins, Addison Helquist, and Sadie Palmer crossed the line fourth, scoring five team points.
This week the San Juan track and field teams are gearing up for a trip to St. George for the annual Dixie Invitational at Dixie High School. It’s set for Friday and Saturday, April 11-12.
