San Juan boys win Boggy Draw Bear Chase, girls take third

Six San Juan High School boys finished in the top ten as the Broncos dominated the annual Boggy Draw Bear Chase in Dolores, CO this past Saturday, August 23.
Junior Platte Lyman won the overall championship, coming home in 18:59.90 with senior Rosendo Martine 24 seconds behind in second overall as San Juan defeated the host Dolores Bulldogs by 31 points.
Jack Kartchner crossed the line fifth overall in 20:02.83, and Keegan McCullough rounded out the scoring positions in sixth place just three seconds later.
Cannon Kartchner was ninth overall in 20:24.10 and Jeraden Hurst came home tenth in 20:28.16. Other top-20 performances for the San Juan boys included Ethan Francom in 11th, Noah Begay in 16th, Oren Bradford in 17th, and James Gosney in 18th.
Sincere Nez paced the girls team to a third-place finish with a 22:19.26 run on the challenging 5K course. The junior crossed the line in fourth overall.
Teammate Ada Lyman was 11th overall in 24:08.49, Brinley Jones was 19th in 27:37.82, and Harmony Oshley rounded out the scoring places in 21st overall with her performance of 29:01.47.
Others finishing for the San Juan girls were Rose Kartchner in 25th with a 31:06.22, Braylyn Eddie in 30th with her 32:59.26, and Eihaazbah Dejolie in 32nd with a 33:51.15.
This week the Bronco harriers will join forces to compete in the Loyds Lake Classic in Monticello. It’s scheduled for Friday, August 29 with varsity racing starting at 3 p.m.
